They never check a bag. Ever.
This is a crucial habit for truth travelers. Sure, there are times when checking a bag is sensible (e.g. if you’re bringing your golf clubs, or even heading out for 3 weeks and you would like a much bigger bag), but most serious business travelers never check their bag. Ever*. Why? Checking a bag adds time to each side of your trip. overtime to prevent and check the bag (when you’ll be heading straight to the safety line) and additional time at your destination expecting the bag to urge unloaded. And you run the danger of your bag getting lost, which is incredibly frustrating. The seasoned traveler invests during a quality carry-on, and an honest backpack (one which will fit a business laptop like my fav, the Ogio Metro). He or she will fit everything they have during this luggage and may travel light and efficiently. this protects them time, hassle and provides them extra sleep and time with their families. They pack light. Real light.
Getting into the habit of packing light is often a challenge for a few. But, traveling light allows for max speed and efficiency. Those are important elements to successful and hassle-free business travel. For the vacationer, moving fast might not get on the highest of your list. It’s likely the other as you would like to take in the trip altogether of its glory. But for the traveler, it’s employment, not a vacation. We travel for work. to place food on our tables. And, we grind. And yes, sometimes it’s a true crank out there. We are often tired, during a different zone, during a foreign bed, and exhausted from being switched “on” while entertaining clients or meeting with our colleagues. We always search for LESS hassle. And packing light helps us achieve that. By packing light we not only reduce weight, but we also simplify. are you able to get a week’s worth of garments into a backpack? I can (especially my Ogio Metro Backpack!). It means wearing my jeans twice and not bringing workout shoes.
But it also means I don’t need to lug a suitcase around. stepping into the habit of packing only what you would like will cause you to that far more effective along the way.
They always get TSA Precheck.
If you’ve been listening to the primary two habits you’ve picked up a trend: smooth, simple, efficient. Ever since 9/11, getting through airport security has been a pain. Before the TSA introduced TSA Precheck we business travelers got specialized at the safety line process. We could steel oneself against the road beforehand getting things ready and accessible and since we roll in the hay hebdomadally we got good at it. specialized. But it had been still a hassle.
Then the TSA came out with TSA Precheck and therefore the business travelers all leveled up! TSA Precheck may be a real game-changer. With Precheck you undergo a little background check process, provide an ID, get fingerprinted, and if approved, you become a “known traveler.” Once you’ve got a KTN or Known Traveler Number, you’ll provide that to your airlines and that they will add it to any boarding passes once you travel. The benefit? You get a separate security line where you are doing not need to remove your shoes, belt or take your laptop out of your bag. this is often an enormous hassle-reducer!
They always get their “points.”
The hardcore traveler knows that one of the good benefits to a like of business travel is collecting points and rewards. Airlines, hotels, rental car companies, Mastercard companies, etc, all have reward programs.
By sticking with one airline, hotel, and rental auto company you’ll start to rack up points and standing. The points can then be wont to take your family on vacation. I once flew my family of 5 to Hawaii, put us up during a very nice Hilton and rented a car for every week — all on points. Imagine what proportion cash that frees up to spend on adventures.
Another great advantage of loyalty and points is you begin to realize status. Status helps ease the effort and grind of traveling for work. for instance, Southwest’s A-List program allows you to always get an A Boarding group (and not grind to a halt within the C Boarding Group..haha). this suggests you’ll pick your seat and stow your bags. Hilton will upgrade your free, offer you free meals and wifi, etc. With Delta, you’ll upgrade to first or business class. The seasoned business travel habitually collects his or her points!
They like to explore their destinations!
How often are you getting to get to Zuni, NM? Or Salishan, OR? Probably not that always. you would possibly also enjoy the place you’re visiting work. there’s ALWAYS something interesting to ascertain anywhere you go. Maybe you don’t have the time to urge the complete tourist experience, but you’ll grab a fast bite during a local eatery, or stop by and snap that photo where so-and-so was killed on the way back to the airport. The serious business travelers get into the habit of enjoying their destinations – whether or not they are NYC or Minot, ND (yes, I’ve been there…cool town). They soak in what they will once they can.
They stay even-keeled and realistic.
Travel can brutal sometimes. you’ll have delays, you’ll be tired, you’ll grind to a halt during a middle seat sometimes. Sometimes there’s nothing you’ll do. There are things beyond your control (it’s just a part of the dark side of normal business travel). So just roll w/ it. I’ve been stuck during a middle seat for six hours on the way back from JFK. It’s terrible, for sure. But it doesn’t last forever. I’ve also done that very same flight in the first-class.
Habit #7: they’re always looking to enhance their travel game!
It’s our job to travel. and that we enjoy it or we wouldn’t roll in the hay. While it’s not always glamorous and sometimes a grind, we still roll in the hay because it’s our job. and that we are always on the search for that next idea or tip to enhance our game. Anything which will shave a couple of minutes off a hassle we’d run into, or ease our comfort.
